Tried for a sunset shot at Balanced Rock but no joy, the sky was totally bland. Clouds coming in today with wind and a storm tomorrow so the skies should be more interesting. Went to the Windows and Park Avenue this morning and then drove the La Sal mountains loop for some fall color. Haven't decided what to try for sunset tonight.

Took a few sunset shots from an unnamed 'overlook' in Canyonlands and the next day we did the Neck Springs trail, about a 6 milers with around 300' of drop. Not a lot of photo ops other trhan dead trees but a fun hike. The climb back up was a bit of a test for me due to my aversion of heights, but I made it without freezing up on the slickrock and having to be rescued. ;-)

Staying at Dead Horse Point. Tried for a Green River Overlook sunset shot but, as usual for me, no color to speak of. Got up and took my usual Dead Horse Point panorama and then on to Canyonlands for a hike to the Upheaval Dome. Into Moab for some errands and then we'll head back to camp for dinner and decide where to go for evening/sunset shots.

Spent two nights in Bryce. Did the mandatory sunrise shot there and also took a side trip to Willis Creek Narrows, some interesting slot canyons near Cannonville, UT. Went from Bryce to Goblin Valley with a brief stop in Capitol Reef for lunch and homemade Mormon pie. At Goblin Valley drove to Little Wild Horse Canyon, but the vertical exposure on the hike in was a little too much for me, I need to work on that. Had a nice shower and light supper in Goblin Vally and then on to Dead Horse State Park and the Moab area.

From the north rim it was on to Zion for four nights. Had some good opportunities there, although I blew it twice on the Watchman sunset shots by not waiting long enough. Found a nice little unnamed slot canyon and had a nice hike up Taylor Creek in the Kolob Canyon area. Now it is Bryce and the surrounds for a couple of days.

From ABQ I went to Hovenweep for one night, Natural Bridges for another and the North Rim for two more. Drove the Mokey Dugway between Natural Bridges and Mexican Hat. From there I've come to Zion for four days.

The drive from Dallas to Amarillo this morning was rain all the way, but finally some sun when I got to New Mexico. I'm not sure the southern route has anything to offer, since without a GPS I could have never figured out how to get from Terrell, TX to Amarillo.

Stopped by the Cadillac Ranch for yet another mini photo session. This time there were clouds as opposed to the clear skies the other times I have stopped.

Staying in ABQ tonight and then on up to the four corners area.

Drove from Atlanta to just east of Dallas today, with a drive by of the Tupelo-Baldcypress Swamp on the Natchez Trace north of Jackson.

Had a great weekend with my #2 son getting married and relatives in from out of town. Now I'm starting to get ready for another trip to the southwest. Leaving Saturday for the North Rim, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Goblin Valley, Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands, Arches and Moab. Really looking forward to getting the D700 out there and shooting some landscapes with it.

I took a few shots at the wedding, and the photographer was nice enough to get a few with me in them with my camera. It was interesting watching them work, but it's not a job I'd want. ;-)
